Pep Guardiola thinks Manchester City could’ve scored more goals against Arsenal at the weekend, despite two goals in their 3-1 win coming from a penalty and offside goal.

The contentious nature of the goals City did score led to questions from Arsène Wenger and fans over whether the side really deserved the win at all.

But Guardiola had no doubts that they were the better side, explaining: “We could have scored five or six we just needed to be more clinical,” reports the Islington Gazette.

“It was a good performance against Arsenal. We created a lot of chances and ‘almost’ chances. We won and we deserved it. Big chances against big teams like Arsenal you have to finish. We knew how important this game was.”

There were a few chances City probably would’ve scored on another day, in my opinion. Raheem Sterling was largely to blame with a couple of big missed opportunities. The winger failed to connect with a Leroy Sané ball across the face of the goal in the first half, when he probably should’ve scored.

Then, later when the 22-year-old had the chance to make amends, somehow he completely messed up his pass to Sané, who was open in the middle. Fortunately for him, he was bailed out after being fouled by Monreal for a penalty.

In the end, the Gunners didn’t make as many clear chances as City did, so Pep’s right that it was probably a fair enough result, even if the manner of the win ended up leaving a bad taste in the mouth of most Arsenal fans – especially those who have been calling for VAR for years.
