Ex-Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini is on trial at Spanish Segunda Division side Rayo Vallecano.

The 33-year-old has been out of contract since he was released by Crystal Palace in the summer. According to Sports Illustrated, Flamini has received plenty of offers from the Premier League and in Europe, but he’s been waiting for the right project to interest him.

That project could be at Segunda Division club Rayo Vallecano. Rayo sit sixth in the division, and are looking to return to the Spanish top flight.

Flamini had a difficult time at Palace, where he only managed 13 appearances in all competitions. Before then, he was enjoying a second stint with Arsenal. The combative midfielder re-joined in 2013 after leaving AC Milan and spent three more seasons at the club.

He was a back-up player who slotted into midfield whenever we had an injury crisis. While he wasn’t that great, fans will remember his incredible brace against Tottenham in the League Cup in 2015.

It seems now that Flamini is looking to end his career with a very different challenge than usual. The Frenchman made 242 appearances for Arsenal across seven seasons.
