Everton are reportedly set to join Arsenal in the race to sign Charlton defender, Ezri Konsa.

Charlton have allegedly resigned themselves to the fact that they’re losing Konsa, who’s been at the club his entire career.

The 20-year-old isn’t out of contract until 2020. However, several Premier League clubs are reportedly set to make a move for the centre-back in January with Arsenal and now Everton among them.

The Toffees signed Charlton forward Ademola Lookman for £11m last January and are therefore supposedly confident of landing Konsa. They’ve obviously got a positive relationship with the League One side and since Everton like to sign homegrown players and develop them, Konsa might see himself getting more opportunities with David Unsworth’s side.

This season, the England u20 international has played 17 times for the Addicks, providing one assist, and he’s made 56 appearances since his first team debut in 2015/16 against Cheltenham Town in the League Cup.

While Charlton will be keen to keep the young talent, the money Everton might be willing to pay out for the defender would potentially outweigh convincing him to stay.

Arsenal could do with another centre-back but with 22-year-old Rob Holding already coming through the ranks, I’d prefer it if we signed someone slightly more experienced to replace Per Mertesacker first.
