Arsenal Invincible Edu has heaped praise on former teammate Patrick Vieira, claiming that the Gunners will never find anyone better than him and that he was even better than Manchester United’s Roy Keane.

Edu and Vieira were at Arsenal together from 2001, when the Brazilian moved to north London from Corinthians, until 2005 when they both left for Valencia and Juventus respectively.

“Patrick… amazing. People want to sign another Vieira? Forget about it,” said Edu.

“Never. Patrick was one of the greatest. Better than Roy Keane.

“I have huge respect for Keane but Patrick was a more complete player.”

Together, Edu and Vieira won the Premier League twice, featured for the Invincibles during their unbeaten season, and also clinched the FA Cup twice.

Although Keane won the title seven times, the FA Cup four times and the Champions League with United, he was playing for one of the biggest teams in the world, under one of the best managers to ever grace the game for a total of 12 years.

Therefore, while Keane was undeniably a strong midfielder and a great leader, I’d have to agree with Edu that Vieira was the best all-rounder. He was the more complete player. He had everything from strength and ability to read the game, to finesse and class.

Unfortunately, I also agree that I don’t think we’ll ever find a defensive midfielder like him ever again. No matter how many times we find a similar player and think he will turn into the next Vieira, it never actually happens.
