Gareth Bale has been linked with a move to Arsenal, but what are the chances of Arsene Wenger signing him?

It’s hard to imagine Gareth Bale in an Arsenal shirt. The Welshman has been linked with the Gunners by Don Balon via the Mirror, as he’s been struggling at Madrid as of late.

The report doesn’t detail any of the financials potentially involved in a deal, but that Arsenal would be capable of doing the deal. Yet, just because they could do it doesn’t mean that they would.

Arsenal would have to weigh up whether an injury-prone 28-year-old would be worth the mega-money they would have to pay for him. A fit and firing Bale is a fantastic player, but perhaps one who would only be good in the short-term.

Someone like Nabil Fekir, on the other hand, would offer plenty of quality, would be cheaper and have better long-term prospects.

If Arsenal were the only club interested, they could have a chance of signing him. However, you’d have to think that a club like Manchester United would be more willing to pay up.

Another potential obstacle is Bale’s past allegiance with Tottenham. In a scenario where Arsenal were his only option, the Welsh international could still make the move, much like how Cesc Fabregas moved to Chelsea in 2014.

But given other choices, he could turn Arsenal down to maintain his good relationship with Tottenham and their fans. Overall, Bale to the Emirates isn’t an impossible scenario.

The Gunners have a greater chance of signing other targets without the extreme expenditures, however, and would surely pursue those options first.
