Petr Čech says he can see why Burnley have been doing so well this season, and was delighted Arsenal managed to overcome the Clarets at Turf Moor.

Sean Dyche’s side held out for 90 minutes against Arsène Wenger’s men, and it seemed like Arsenal were going to fall short, despite having the opportunity to overtake Tottenham and Liverpool.

Fortunately, the team managed to get a winner right at the end, but Čech said after the match that it was no surprise the Gunners found things so difficult, reports Arseblog.

“It’s not easy for anybody to come here. [Burnley] are very well organised and they play simple football in a way, but they play it really well.

“You have to say that it’s no accident they’re so dangerous at home, because they use the long ball very well, they have good link-up play after that and they create a lot of chances from the sides.

“They have big players up front with a good presence in the box, and we had to make sure that we were up to the task. In the first half we were and in the second half we improved.

“We pushed them deeper into their half and then pretty much locked them there for the second half. That made the biggest difference and in the end we were rewarded for the pressure.”

Fans and pundits have said it time and again, but it’s the games against the big teams and the in-form sides that Arsenal really need to improve in. The Gunners can blow away the likes of Everton and Bournemouth, but struggle as soon as they come up against a team on a run like Watford or Manchester City.

Beating Tottenham and Burnley shows that Arsenal can step up to the challenge, so now it’s just about doing it on a consistent basis. Manchester United are coming up at the weekend, so that’s another opportunity for the Gunners to prove themselves.

Before that, however, Arsenal need to show they haven’t lost the ability to beat recently-promoted sides like Huddersfield, with the two clubs locking horns in the league on Wednesday.
