Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher is convinced that Tottenham will finish above Arsenal again this season but has shot down claims that there’s been a ‘power shift’ in north London.

While Carragher still firmly believes that Arsenal are still the bigger north London team, the ex-Liverpool man has tipped Spurs to finish above Arsene Wenger’s men again this season.

“Tottenham I think just have the edge on them,” the pundit said on Monday Night Football.

“I think they will finish above them this season.

“Power shift? No.

“I think it has to be five or six years where you finish above your rivals.

“A big player, if they had the option between Spurs or Arsenal in the summer, I still think a big foreign player would choose Arsenal.”

Tottenham finished above the Gunners for the first time since 1995 last season and it was something of a watershed moment, since they’d been prattling on about this ‘power shift’ for years and now it finally appear to be happening.

Not that finishing above Arsenal once in 21 years is the same as winning the title 13 times but it’s hard to argue that Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t built a pretty decent starting XI while the Gunners have looked a bit… meh… over the past couple of seasons.

However, while Carragher agrees that Spurs are a long way off becoming a bigger team than Arsenal, he can’t see Wenger’s side overtaking the Lilywhites this term and, to be fair, he’s not exactly being unreasonable.

As it stands, Spurs are only a point ahead of the Gunners. However, apart from Manchester City, who are eight points clear of United in second, it’s all getting pretty tight. In fact, just four points separate the Red Devils and seventh-place Burnley.

Can Arsenal finish above their north London rivals? It’s not going to be easy.
