Dimitar Berbatov loves red sauce because it reminds him of the Arsenal defence he used to “eat”.

The former Tottenham striker has said the most bizarre thing you’ll probably read today.

In an interview with the S*n, Berbatov said he used to love scoring against Arsenal, “bullying them” and eating red sauce.

“I remember beating them 5-1 in the semi-final. I was so sad after the game that I didn’t score. But I remember scoring against Arsenal a couple of times. It was a good feeling,” he said.

“I loved scoring against them. I loved bullying that defence. When I eat red sauce it reminds me of Arsenal because they are red and I used to eat them!”

Berbatov did score a few goals against Arsenal, as a lot of strikers do. But it was just a ‘few’

In a Tottenham shirt, he scored two against us, neither of which came in a win.

In fact, Berbatov’s Tottenham won against Arsenal just once: a 5-1 win in the Carling Cup back in 2007.

He went on to join Manchester United, where he didn’t score against Arsenal.

Then he moved on to Fulham, where he scored just once against Arsenal.

After that, he went to Monaco, where he also scored just once against Arsenal.

That’s four goals against us in his whole career. In my mind, that hardly constitutes “bullying”.

Perhaps Berbatov was just paying lip service to the Tottenham fans who used to support him ahead of the North London derby.

As it turned out, Arsenal bullied Spurs on the way to a 2-0 win.

Berbatov is currently playing for Kerala Blasters in India.
