Hector Bellerin has described Reiss Nelson’s ability to adapt to almost any role as ‘remarkable’ at his age.

Bellerin had high-praise for Nelson recently. The right-back reckons the 17-year-old has proven how versatile he is while playing for Arsenal’s reserves, as well as their first team in the Europa League and Carabao Cup this season.

“Reiss is one of the players who, since they’ve stepped on to the first-team training pitch, has shown that there’s something quite different about him,” Bellerin told Arsenal Player.

“He’s got a great attitude, he’s got a great style of play and is someone who, when he goes to the under-23s now, he will go and score every single week. He’s someone who we’re really happy to have. When you compete against teams in the Europa League and you’re able to adapt from a No 10 role to a wing-back role, I think that’s remarkable at that age.”

Nelson tends to play in an attacking role for the reserves. In Premier League 2, he’s scored a whopping six goals in five appearances and he’s netted them while playing in a no.10 role. However, he’s also played on the wing, which is where Arsenal fans would like to see him in action for the first team.

Arsene Wenger, meanwhile, has been playing the teenager as a wing-back, which is far more defensive than Nelson would probably like. This is probably because Theo Walcott plays in the more attacking position and, as the senior player, he tends to be given priority.

I have no doubt that in the future we’ll see Nelson play in a more advanced spot. As Bellerin says, it’s a credit to him that he’s able to be switched around so much without it really affecting his game too much.
