Arsenal have the fourth highest wage bill in the Premier League ahead of the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham.

The Gunners reportedly dish out a hefty £234m-per-season in wages. This is more than Liverpool (£200m) and Spurs (£120m).

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Arsenal don’t pay quite as much as the likes of Manchester City (£244m), Chelsea (£256m) and United (£264m). However, considering how much stronger their squads are looking, I can’t help but be a little concerned.

City are unbeaten in the Premier League and are flying at the top of the table, yet they’re only paying the likes of Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Gabriel Jesus et al. £10m more per season in wages.

Arsenal’s highest paid player as of this summer is allegedly Alexandre Lacazette, who’s paid £200kpw.

Meanwhile, Sead Kolasinac also apparently earns £140kpw – the same as Mesut Ozil. Although, if the German does decide to stay in north London once his contract runs out, I imagine this will be vastly improved upon.

While I can understand new players being handed competitive deals, it’s the likes of Theo Walcott taking home £110kpw that irks me. The forward has made just three Premier League appearances this season yet earns more than Petr Cech (£100kpw), who plays every week and has far more experience.

Everything at Arsenal seems unbalanced from top to bottom and now that appears to encompass our wage bill as well.

Is this yet more proof that Arsene Wenger needs a director of football to help straighten these deals out before we have the likes of Carl Jenkinson running around on higher wages than Alex Iwobi?

Too late….
