Arsenal have joined London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham in sending scouts to watch Athletic Bilbao u23 Gorka Guruzeta, according to reports.

Manchester United’s u23s are playing at home to Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday, giving the three clubs the opportunity to send their scouts over to check the forward out.

The Sun claim that’s exactly what they’ll do, as the 21-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the year. Any club keen to sign the youngster could do it for a small compensation fee.

Guruzeta has been in good from for Bilbao’s second team in Spain, scoring six goals in 14 appearances from the left wing.

The 6ft 2 youngster can play anywhere across the front three, as he proved last season, with his starts being spread fairly evenly between left wing (eight appearances), right wing (seven) and centre-forward (five).

Now he seems to have settled on playing on the left, but it remains to be seen whether he can impress the scouts on Wednesday, if they really are in attendance as reported.

Obviously, when the source is The Sun you have to take it with a pinch of salt. It’s also perfectly possible that scouts attending the match plan to watch another player.
