Arsenal could sign Joao Mario after Inter Milan named their asking price, according to reports.

The Serie A club haven’t been able to get the best out of Portuguese midfielder Joao Mario, and are reportedly looking to offload in January.

According to the Mirror, Arsenal have been put on “red alert” as Inter have put a £27m asking price on the 24-year-old.

The Mirror’s report cites another site which, in turn, cites Transfer Market Web who are actually citing Tuttosport as the original source of news that Inter are willing to sell.

Noticeably, however, the Italian sources have not brought up Arsenal at all.

The Daily Star also reported on Arsenal’s supposed interest in Mario, and also cited the same source of information.

But again, the original source did not mention Arsenal.

Arsenal have been linked Joao Mario before, but that seems to be the only basis for these new reports.

They’re assuming that Arsenal would be keen because of Inter’s asking price.

£27m is reasonable by today’s standards, while Arsenal could soon be in need of a new midfielder.

However, if Mario isn’t good enough to play for Inter Milan every week, there’s little to suggest he’d good enough for Arsenal, either.
