Arsenal plan to spend £14m on Trabzonspor midfielder Yusuf Yazici, according to reports in Turkey.

Turkish outlet Fanatik via talkSPORT write that Arsenal are interested in Yazici as a potential successor to Mesut Özil, and the 20-year-old is represented by the same agent, Dr Erkut Sogut.

Bayern Munich and Liverpool are two other teams reportedly interested, so the Gunners would need to fight off some competition. But perhaps the relationship that’s already been built up between the club and Özil’s agent could help Arsenal get an edge.

The young attacking-midfielder has two goals and two assists in his 12 appearances this season, and hasn’t missed a game in the current Super Lig campaign. He’s contributed some important goals too, netting against league leaders Galatasaray in late October, while grabbing an assist against Fenerbahce.

Last season, the playmaker managed 10 assists and six goals in 22 games. This is an impressive record for a young player not at one of the very top Turkish teams. But of course, playing in the Premier League is an entirely different prospect.

We’ll have to see whether the new head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat, thinks the option is worth pursuing.
