Arsenal legend Ian Wright doesn’t agree that Alexis Sanchez looks unsettled.

Wrighty reckons that Alexis is playing exactly the way he always has done despite the Chilean being strongly linked with a move away from north London once his contracts runs out at the end of the season.

“He always plays hard. At the moment, he still plays like he does and keeps giving the ball away when other people are in better positions,” Wright told Sky Sports’ The Debate show.

“There’s no change to him and he’s playing how he normally plays.

“It was a beautiful assist against Brighton and then I realised he’s still not signed a new deal.”

To be fair, Wrighty’s not wrong. Alexis has never exactly been Andrés Iniesta with the ball and he’s always had this frustrating habit of holding onto the ball for too long or giving it away. However, he’s not a midfielder playing in a team with Lionel Messi, he’s a forward and at times last season he was trying to win games by himself.

As a result, Alexis misplaced more passes than any other players in the final third.

This season, he’s only scored once in the Europa League and managed two assists but hasn’t been as sloppy so far. In fact, his pass completion rate in the Premiership has risen from 73% to 76% if you can believe it.

I would have to disagree that the 28-year-old isn’t playing differently to last season though. Admittedly, he’s never been a good loser. However, his face appears to be in a perpetual state of exasperation these days, he’s always got his eyes glued to the floor and his shoulders are constantly slumped.

Then again, perhaps I’m just projecting.
