Jack Wilshere believes that Arsenal have answered their critics with their 1-0 win away to Red Star Belgrade on Thursday.

When asked whether the Gunners had answered their critics with their win in the Europa League on Thursday, the 25-year-old claimed that they had, saying, “Yes I think so.

“I mean I said yesterday in our press conference I don’t think anyone can question our character.

“We showed that tonight, you know it’s a tough place to come I don’t think they’ve lost here this season.”

Obviously, it was a bit of a leading question and what else was Wilshere supposed to say but have Arsenal really answered their critics?

An 85th-minute moment of brilliance from Wilshere, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud against a 10-man Serbian side that are ranked bottom of our Europa League group is hardly win of the century.

While I do appreciate that the atmosphere would have been hostile and our youngsters did well, to claim that this narrow victory proves anything is a tad naive. However, we can only beat who’s in front of us. The next test will be in the Premier League on Sunday.

Arsenal face Everton at Goodison Park this weekend having lost there 2-1 last season. It was potentially this performance and result where the wheels came off after a strong start to the 2016/17 campaign.

If we can beat the Toffees on their turf, that’d be something to shove up our critics’ noses. But it’ll take a lot more than one or two good results to truly answer them.
