After Eddie Nketiah’s late brace against Norwich City in the League Cup on Tuesday night, many have been questioning why on earth Chelsea let the 18-year-old go two years ago.

Chelsea apparently let Eddie leave in 2015 because they thought he was too small.

The Lewisham-born striker is only 1.75m tall, which is just under five-foot-nine. So, while he’s not exactly the biggest, he’s hardly tiny. Alexis Sanchez is said to be 1.68m, as is Jesse Lingard, who also scored a brace in Manchester United’s League Cup clash against Swansea on Tuesday night.

Nketiah is quite slight and does look young, but he’s only 18 – 16 when he left Chelsea – so there’s plenty of time to build up his physique. Plus, when you’ve got the skills, everything else is secondary.

Not that I’m complaining – Chelsea’s loss is Arsenal’s gain.

The teenager scored twice to not only equalise but fire the Gunners through to the fifth round of the League Cup. He completely changed the run of play, finding the back of the net with his first touch within 15 seconds.

He’s also scored three times and assisted twice in six Premier League 2 appearances this season and made his first team debut against BATE Borisov in the Europa League.
