Wenger: Silva has been impressive at Watford

Arsene Wenger had high praise for fellow manager Marco Silva ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Vicarage Road.

Wenger reckons that Silva has been impressive since taking over at Watford in May.

“He has impressed, because I think Watford play good football. He was at Hull where he had a very good start as well and overall I think he has done very well,” Wenger said.

“They are a strong side. They have strong results, they’re a balanced team who are dangerous and play good football. They’re tough opponents for everybody.”

Silva came in for Walter Mazzarri in May after the Hornets narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League and he’s not done bad at all.

Watford are currently in eighth place in the Premier League after losing just once so far – a 0-6 thrashing at the hands of title contenders Manchester City.

Silva managed Hull from January 2017 but resigned in May when they got relegated but it’s been another story at Watford and he’s fit right in.

Before that, he had brief spells in charge of Sporting and Olympiacos. He’s only 40, so pretty young for a manager. Therefore, it’s not unusual for him to be bouncing around to different clubs as he’s gaining experience.

Although Arsenal are yet to face Watford with Silva in charge, last time they met, the Hornets won 2-1 so I imagine it won’t be as straight-forward as most of us hope. Although, when do the Gunners ever make it simple?

When Wenger last faced Silva, the Portuguese manager was at Hull and Arsenal won 2-0 with a brace from Alexis. So at least the boss can go into the clash knowing what to expect. Maybe.
