Josh Dasilva could be the next youngster to make an impact in the Arsenal first-team, with the teenager impressing manager Arsene Wenger in Tuesday’s League Cup clash.

The 19-year-old made his début for Arsenal in the Carabao Cup third round tie against Doncaster Rovers, and has been involved in every cup squad since.

Having come through the youth ranks as a forward, he was converted into a central midfielder until recently, when he started filling in as a left wing-back. He’s adapted to the role well, and Wenger feels he’s making good progress in training.

“Josh Dasilva made his debut in the last round [of the Carabao Cup] – he’s a strong boy, physically strong, has a good left foot, good vision as well as a good technical level,” he said, reports Football.London.

“He has many positive ingredients, he just needs confidence. In the last month I feel that he has moved forward a lot in training.”

Dasilva made his début as a left-sided centre back before coming off the bench to play left wing-back against Norwich. Arsenal have been using Ainsley Maitland-Niles, normally a central midfielder, as cover for the left hand side, but he hasn’t looked entirely comfortable.

The squad currently lacks natural cover for first-choice left wing-back Sead Kolasinac. Nacho Monreal would have been that cover, but has become an important part of Arsenal’s back three as a centre back.

Wenger singling Dasilva out for praise suggests there’s a chance he could become that secondary option in the near future. The 19-year-old is a regular for the u23 side and has represented England at u19 and u20 level.
