Marc Overmars has reportedly reached an agreement to return to Arsenal.

Overmars is apparently set to leave his position as Director of Football at Ajax at the end of the season and has already reached an agreement to return to Arsenal, claim Tutto Mercato Web.

The Italian outlet doesn’t reveal in what capacity the ex-Gunner will supposedly be returning to north London but presumably it would be as a Director of Football or similar role considering he was linked with the job at the end of last season.

Back in April, Overmars was rumoured to be returning to Arsenal before Arsene Wenger shot down the idea of having a Director of Football, which the club has never had before.

While the Dutchman is a club legend, he’s relatively inexperienced in his role, which we mentioned at the time. However, the ex-winger seemed open to the idea, saying, “I know the club pretty well and I have always kept in touch with Arsenal.

“As a player I had the ambition to play in Europe [outside the Netherlands].

“It might be an option in the future. I think there is a list with names, and I’m on it.

“It’s not strange since I’ve had a good time at Arsenal. But I’ve just signed a new contract at Ajax.”

It might be true, it might not be. Although I would have to wonder why Wenger had suddenly changed his mind just months after seemingly being against bringing a Director of Football on board. Perhaps this isn’t the position Overmars will be filling or maybe, just maybe, Le Professeur isn’t as stubborn as we think…

Nah. Not possible. It has to be the first thing.
