David Ospina’s Arsenal career is reportedly hanging by a thread after he made a string of mistakes for Colombia during their 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

It’s rare that a goalkeeper alone is so terrible that they’re directly responsible for letting a whole nation down. Enter David Ospina.

The 29-year-old made two errors against Paraguay on Friday, which resulted in Colombia losing 2-1, and then touched in an own goal from an indirect free-kick on Wednesday. His blunder meant that Colombia drew 1-1 against Peru. However, his country still qualify.

His mistake also means that Peru rose above Chile on goal difference alone, putting Peru through to the play-offs but pushing Chile out.

Ospina was supposed to be leaving Arsenal this summer but Arsene Wenger lost his mind and sold Wojciech Szczesny instead. The Frenchman then convinced the 29-year-old, who was already anxious about his lack of playing time, to stay in north London.

According to the Evening Standard, the Gunners are scouting several goalkeepers.

The shot-stopper has under two years left on his contract with the Gunners, so I can’t see him staying with us for too much longer. However, after seeing his performances for Colombia, it’s hard to imagine any team actually signing Ospina voluntarily.
