Nacho Monreal was the only player in the Premier League last weekend to complete more than 100 passes.

According to Squawka, Monreal completed 101 passes in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Brighton on Sunday – the most any player completed during that round of fixtures.

Arsenal had an easy time retaining possession at the back against Brighton, as Rob Holding and Shkodran Mustafi also racked up the passes, with 87 and 86 respectively.

With Brighton sitting deep with a bank of four behind a back of five, Arsenal had plenty of time and space to play the ball between their centre backs.

In the first half, not a great deal of those passes penetrated Brighton’s shape. However, in the second half, there was more movement ahead of the ball and more passing options for them.

Arguably, the more impressive stat from Monreal’s performance was his goal.

It was the Spaniard’s first league goal for the club since 2013, when he scored in a 2-0 victory away to Swansea.

His only other goal for the club was his thumping volley in the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City last season.

Monreal has been one of Arsenal’s most consistent performers this season and is enjoying a good run of form as a left-sided centre back.
