Vivianne Miedema admits that she’s been surprised by the level of football in England after making her first start against Bristol City on Sunday afternoon.

Miedema made her first start for Arsenal against Bristol on Sunday.

The match ended 1-1 and the 21-year-old admitted post-match that English football has taken her a little bit by surprise.

“I guess it’s English football, it’s been like that in the last two games as well. I like the way we play and we just need to do that as a team,” she said, reports Arsenal.com.

“I’m used to Germany, so it’s quite similar I guess. I am actually really surprised by the level here in England – I think it’s really good and I hope it’s going to improve and get better as well because it’s better for all the players.”

The forward signed for Arsenal in May and has since struggled with an injury, which she admits she’s not fully recovered from. Before that, she played for Bayern Munich for three years so, as she mentions, she’s grown up facing a similar level of opposition. Although that obviously didn’t stop her from being taken aback by the level English football is at.

LONDON, ENGLAND – OCTOBER 08: Vivianne Miedema throws her jacket to kit staff in preperation for the team photo prior to the Women’s Super League 1 match between Arsenal and Bristol City at Meadow Park, Boreham Wood on October 8, 2017 in London, United Kingdom. (Photo by Naomi Baker/Getty Images)

Just four days after the draw against the Vixens, Arsenal host London Bees (12 October) at Meadow Park.

At the moment, Chelsea Ladies are so strong that it’s hard to see Arsenal getting anywhere near them in the FA WSL. After three games played, the Gunners have just four points while the Blues have nine and have scored 13 goals, shipping none.

However, there is a long way to go and when Miedema is 100% fit I’m sure she’ll be back to her goalscoring ways. The Dutch international was a revelation for the Netherlands during the Euros this summer, scoring four goals in six appearances, including two in the final against Denmark.
