Marseille are reportedly still keen on signing Lucas Perez next summer.

Lucas is currently on loan with former club Deportivo but Marseille are keen on signing him permanently next summer, claim Le10Sport (via Sport Witness).

The Ligue 1 club’s Director of Football, Andoni Zubizarretta, is allegedly a fan of the Spaniard.

Lucas is yet to really get out of second gear at Deportivo this season. Last term, he made just 11 Premier League appearances at Arsenal so perhaps it’s taking him a little while to find his groove. The 29-year-old’s scored once in five La Liga matches so far.

Marseille’s apparent interest depends on how well Lucas does during the remainder of his loan spell in Spain.

Presumably, Arsenal aren’t going to want the forward back considering the fuss his agent kicked up over the summer and the French side are slightly richer than Deportivo, so could probably convince both him and his club into the move.

During his time in north London, Lucas did score seven goals and assisted five in 21 games across all competitions, which isn’t actually bad. It means that he directly contributed to a goal in over half his appearances.

Let’s hope he hits his stride at Deportivo so that he can move on at the end of the season instead of just returning to Arsenal and repeating the whole cycle again.
