Mesut Ozil is not close to joining Manchester United, according to reports.

The German has been linked with a move to Old Trafford and was said to have told Arsenal teammates that he was keen to make the switch.

However, according to the Daily Star, Manchester United sources have played down any deal being close.

Ozil is out of contract in the summer, with no extension in sight.

The lack of development on a new deal has fuelled speculation that the 29-year-old could be sold in January.

United have been mentioned as a potential destination due to the relationship between Ozil and Jose Mourinho. The two worked together at Real Madrid and won the La Liga title.

Ozil can hold talks with foreign clubs in January and potentially sign a pre-contract agreement ahead of the summer.

According to the Gambling Times, Juventus, Paris St. Germain and Bayern Munich are keen on him as well.

Ozil has made just two Arsenal appearances since the 3-0 win over Bournemouth at the start of September.

A brief cameo against West Brom was his last appearance before a knee injury kept him out for the remainder of the month.

He made his return to first team action against Watford last Saturday, and is expected to feature against Everton on Sunday.
