Goalkeeper Matt Macey could be set to make his senior debut for Arsenal against Norwich City in tonight’s Carabao Cup clash.

David Ospina is injured and Arsène Wenger has a history of giving his third-choice goalkeeper a chance in the League Cup, as he did last season on three occasions with Emi Martinez.

As the Gunners’ back up ‘keeper this season, Matt Macey is currently the most likely youth goalie to be in line for involvement in the match, and rumours suggest he’s set to start.

This season, Macey has seen his game-time limited by the fact that he’s so close to the senior side. Making the first-team bench on five occasions so far, in the League Cup, Europa League and Premier League.

The 23-year-old has only had the chance to play for the u23s twice, in wins over Leicester City and Manchester City. It would be a big moment for the 23-year-old if he does get his first start, having only played in friendlies and youth games for the Gunners in the past.

Last season, Macey was loaned out to Luton Town, and put together a good run of games, keeping four clean sheets in 11 matches. Arsenal then recalled the 6ft 6 shot-stopper due to a goalkeeping crisis that saw Emi Martinez go from third-choice to first.

Hopefully Macey can make use of that loan experience if he starts tonight.
