Alexandre Lacazette says refereeing decisions surprise him the most when watching back Premier League matches.

One thing that Lacazette has been praised for in the past is his ability to reflect intelligently on his performances and figure out where he can improve.

This is something he is continuing to try and do since joining Arsenal, as he told SFR Sport (via Daily Star): “I am watching quite a few matches to understand English football, I am watching quite a lot of my matches with Arsenal and when I look back and see what I didn’t do right, I try to learn from it. Which hopefully facilitates my progression.”

Alexandre said that when he watches the matches, he is often most surprised by the officiating: “The refereeing decisions [still surprise me]. Sometimes I think it is a bit dangerous. But then I see that nobody is shocked, so I tell myself it must be normal.”

It’s encouraging to hear that a player is willing to go back and look at what he did wrong, in order to improve.

Also, getting a better understanding of how the referees officiate matches is helpful, as it allows you to figure out how best to push the boundaries.

You know when you can go for the ball without giving away a foul, and when there’s no point going to ground because you’ll never get a free-kick.

It all sounds very cynical, but that’s the reality in football.

If you commit the same sort of challenges in the Premier League and other leagues in Europe, you’re unlikely to get the identical refereeing decisions in both cases.

The sooner Lacazette can catch on, the better, and the best way to do that is by watching and playing Premier League football as much as possible.
