Stan Kroenke has insisted that he wants Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez to stay at Arsenal.

The normally silent majority shareholder of the club took some time out to give an interview. One issue that was raised to him was the current situation surrounding Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

The two are out of contract in the summer and, at this rate, are certain to leave the club at the end of the season. There was some thought that Kroenke would be perfectly content with letting that happen.

However, the American businessman is adamant that he wants Arsenal to keep hold of its top players. “We want to attract top players, keep top players and those guys [Ozil and Sanchez] are top players,” he said, as reported by the Daily Star.

“I watched them on Sunday and they looked really good and played really, really, really well. We’d love to keep them. It takes two to dance; we’ll keep working to keep our top talent and to attract more talent but some of the guys we’ve got are looking pretty good.”

That all sounds great, but it doesn’t seem like Arsenal are doing all they can to keep them. For example, the club didn’t invest heavily in the summer to sign the top players it can supposedly attract. In fact, it made a profit on player trading.

Meanwhile, contract negotiations between the club and Ozil and Alexis haven’t gone anywhere. There’s also an issue with how their contracts were allowed to run down to the final year in the first place.

Ultimately, Kroenke talks a good game, but has to back up his words with actions to be taken seriously.
