Aaron Ramsey’s Wales have failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Ramsey played the full 90 minutes for Wales during their 1-0 loss to the Republic of Ireland on Monday night.

The midfielder played appallingly, misplacing passes and missing shots. It was out of character for the 26-year-old who usually manages to pull it out the bag for his country. He, along with Gareth Bale, were phenomenal during the Euros last year but without the Real Madrid man on the pitch this time, the Red Dragons failed to qualify for the next international tournament.

The win for the Republic of Ireland, thanks to a single goal from West Brom’s James McClean, puts them up into second place in Group D. This sends them through to the qualifying play-offs.

Serbia top the group so automatically make the World Cup in Russia.

Meanwhile, Nacho Monreal played 90 for Spain during their 1-0 win over Israel.

Spain are unbeaten during the qualification stage, which the 31-year-old has featured twice in, so automatically qualified for the World Cup next year when they thrashed Italy 3-0 in September.

It was the left-back’s 20th cap for his country so while the result was mostly meaningless, it was still 90 minutes for Spain and a clean sheet, so he’ll be pleased with that.
