Just to compound the Gunners’ misery after the loss to Watford, a number of players have picked up new injury problems.

Before the game even kicked off, there were already new injury concerns from the international break. Ramsey and Alexis were excluded from the squad, with Wenger citing muscular issues.

Adrian Clarke, who works for the Gunners on a couple of shows on Arsenal media, revealed that the injuries were sustained in training, rather than on international duty.

It only got worse when the game got underway.

Two players returning from injury, Laurent Koscielny and Danny Welbeck, were both risked for the match, and neither gamble ended up paying off. Welbeck was subbed off injured in the 61st minute and Koscielny followed late on in the 85th.

Wenger explained after the match (via Arsenal.com): “It looks to be a hamstring with Welbeck. I don’t really know because everybody is shocked in the dressing room [about the result]. It looks a muscular problem.

“Koscielny is a muscle problem as well. I wanted to take Iwobi off and they told me that Koscielny had to come off because of his calf.”

So whilst it seems like Ramsey and Alexis shouldn’t be out for long (Wenger said he expected them to be back next weekend), it looks to be another few weeks on the sidelines for Welbeck, who had been out since the Chelsea game in mid-September.

Laurent Koscielny could also be facing a similar time out, although it’s difficult to be sure of the exact time-scale at this stage since his previous problems have been related to his Achilles, rather than muscular issues.
