George Groves and Chris Eubank Jr.’s World Boxing Super Series semi-final could take place at the Emirates.

Groves versus Eubank’s semi-final boxing match could take place at the Emirates, with other Premier League and London venues currently being looked at.

As a life-long Chelsea fan, Groves wants to have it at Stamford Bridge. However, the Blues have confirmed to ESPN FC that this won’t be happening.

Groves’ promoter, Kalle Sauerland, is apparently looking at playing the semi-final at Fulham, who are now in the Championship, which would be close to where Groves grew up. They’re also considering the Emirates, Brighton, the SSE Arena in Wembley and the Manchester Arena.

Groves beat Jamie Cox at the SSE Arena on Saturday, so perhaps he wouldn’t mind playing in the same place.

“We are looking at venues, it’s a tricky time of year,” Sauerland said during a press conference.

“It’s a fight you can take to any stadium in the country. It’s January or February so you generally do it indoors but we’re looking to do it outside. If it’s outdoors, it will be a 10 p.m. start and if you’re at a midweek football match that goes to extra time or penalties, it’s going on to a similar time.

“Weather is always a risk but I’ve done shows in Hamburg [Germany] in July and there have been monsoons.”

The match will take place in either January or February, which is the time of year when boxing matches are usually played indoors because of the whether. Therefore, having it outside might not be on the cards after all.

The Emirates is used to hosting non-football events and even non-sporting events with the likes of Coldplay and Adele playing packed-out concerts at the Ashburton Grove location.

Therefore, if the semi-final boxing match is played on our turf, I’m sure the club will be more than prepared.
