Giroud ‘scorpion kick’ nominated for Puskas award

Olivier Giroud has made the three-man shortlist for the FIFA Puskas award.

Daily Cannon previously reported that Giroud had been nominated for the prestigious Puskas award and had even made the 10-man shortlist.

The annual award, named after former Real Madrid striker Ferenc Puskás, recognises the most aesthetically pleasing goal of the year from around the world and Big Sexy’s scorpion kick against Crystal Palace has made the top three.

FIFA made the slight mistake of opening up the voting to fans after actual experts had whittled down the 10-man shortlist. Therefore, if Giroud doesn’t win, we’ve failed.

Voting closes on 23 October with the prize being awarded that evening during The Best FIFA Football Awards in London.

The other two goals to make the final shortlist are a half-way line, stoppage time worldie from Venezuela’s Deyna Castellanos and a bicycle kick from Baroka’s goalkeeper, Oscarine Masuluke.

Since Giroud might very well be leaving Arsenal in January, this could be our last chance to prove how much we love and appreciate the 31-year-old. It would be a massive honour for the France international, who’s struggling for game time this term. Plus, it genuinely was a stunning goal.

Oh and it would p**s everyone else off. So it’s basically a win-win.
