While Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye is set to sign a £4m-per-year deal with the Toffees, a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ could reportedly see him move to Arsenal in the future.

Gueye is set to sign a new deal with Everton, which will take him up until 2022 and see him allegedly earn £4m-per-year.

However, according to the Sun, the 28-year-old has made a gentleman’s agreement with the club, which will allow him to sign for a Champions League team if they make an approach.

Arsenal are the main club that have been linked with Gueye who could potentially fall under this bracket. Although obviously not at the moment since we seem to have found our level in the Europa League.. and finishing in the top four again is looking like a bit of an ask.

Gueye has been compared to Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante, who Arsene Wenger admittedly tried to sign twice before he joined our rivals, so linking Arsenal with the midfielder isn’t that far-fetched.

The Senegal international only joined Ronald Koeman’s side in 2016 after spending a season with Aston Villa but has impressed during his short time with the Toffees.

This term, Gueye’s already made 11 appearances across all competitions, scoring in the Europa League qualifiers against Hajduk Split.

Everton only paid a reported £7.1m (his release clause) for the ex-Lille man. However, presumably Arsenal would have to pay a lot more.
