The Arsenal fans were delighted with Mesut Ozil’s performance on Sunday.

The 29-year-old put in his best display of the season in the 5-2 win over Everton. He scored and assisted his first goals of the season, while also creating nine chances for his teammates – the most anyone has managed in a Premier League match this season so far.

It was a timely reminder of the quality he possesses, and fans were understandably delighted to see it again.

Ozil has come under heavy criticism this season for his performances. While he’s fallen below his usual standard, fans and pundits have accused him lack of commitment and not trying hard enough in matches.

It felt like that after every defeat, Ozil would be the first one blamed after Arsene Wenger. Central to the criticism was his contract situation and future at the club.

Having not extended his contract at Arsenal, there was a feeling that he had downed tools and simply going through the motions.

The 29-year-old certainly wasn’t going though the motions on Sunday, as he poked holes in Everton’s defence. He’ll now be looking to replicate his form against Swansea on Saturday before the big games against Manchester City and Tottenham in November.
