Troy Deeney has been pretty chatty following Watford’s 2-1 win over Arsenal on Saturday but it seems that the striker does have some praise for one Gunner in particular.

Despite tearing into Arsenal’s lack of ‘cojones’ after they lost 2-1 at Vicarage Road at the weekend, Deeney reckons that Jack Wilshere is better than most of the England squad when he’s fit.

Wilshere has been capped for England 34 times during his career but hasn’t played for them since June 2016.

Injuries have prevented him from getting call-ups and the 25-year-old missed out on the Three Lions’ 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Lithuania at the beginning of October.

However, Gareth Southgate hasn’t shut the door on the possibility of the midfielder being called up for the World Cup itself in Russia. If he stays fit, that is.

Wilshere has only made three appearances for Arsenal’s senior team this season and is set to make a fourth against Red Star Belgrade on Thursday night.

He’s been sharp and proven that, with time, he can get back to his best.

As everyone says though, it all depends on whether he can stay fit. The lad’s been so injury-prone since 2011/12 that it’s hard to get excited right now but hopefully he proves me wrong.
