Joe Willock put in another mature display against Red Star Belgrade on Thursday night leading some to question whether he’s the midfielder Arsenal have needed.

Willock made his second Europa League start on Thursday evening and once again put in a professional, mature display.

The versatile England u19 international completed 93% of his passes against the Serbian side, completed one out of three dribbles, and won four tackles.

Willock also made one key pass.

While the 18-year-old isn’t perhaps as exciting to watch as Reiss Nelson, he’s definitely talented and helped control the game from the centre of the park almost effortlessly. Even though the game itself was a bit of a snooze-fest.

His ability to play left, right or in the centre, where Arsene Wenger tends to start him, means that he has an understanding of what the role requires, unlike some of his older teammates it seems.

For a young lad he has a pretty commanding presence, which will only improve with age and game time. Although, he is five-foot-10 – not the smallest but not massive either.

As it stands, he’s the perfect addition to our Europa League team and, with time, I’m sure he’ll get plenty more chances to prove himself in other competitions. At the moment he seems happy to be traveling with the big boys and representing his club.
