Santi Cazorla could struggle to earn a new contract at Arsenal as the midfielder seemingly suffers yet another setback.

The Spanish midfielder has been out for a year with an Achilles injury and is, according to the Mirror, not expected to return until late on in the current season.

Cazorla is training again following successful surgery but is still some way off full fitness.

There are concerns that this could be his last year as an Arsenal player due to his contract situation.

His contract expires at the end of the season, meaning he won’t have much time to prove to Arsenal and Arsene Wenger that he can still contribute to the club.

Cazorla picked up the injury while playing against Ludogorets in the Champions League last October.

It seemed, at the time, like a minor problem. He was initially expected to be out for only two to three weeks.

However, complications arose, and he required surgery. Following that, the injury didn’t heal as expected, and he’s had several surgeries since to correct the issue.

He is, at least, running again and hopefully it wont be long before he’s back training with a ball.

Arsenal have missed Cazorla and would surely welcome his return to the squad.

The Gunners lost Danny Welbeck and Laurent Koscielny to injuries against Watford.
