Etienne Capoue says that after his spell with Spurs, he’d like nothing more than to beat Arsenal with Watford on Saturday.

Capoue was one of the many signings Spurs made using the money from the sale of Gareth Bale, and like most of the rest, he didn’t live up to the hype or price tag. In the end, his spell was such a disappointment that just two years later Tottenham took a £3m loss on the midfielder to offload him to Watford.

Since then the 29-year-old has improved significantly, but the one thing he did take away from playing for Spurs was a hatred of Arsenal, as he explained to the Evening Standard: “From the first day I arrived at Tottenham they told me Arsenal is the enemy.

“Do I want to beat them as much as ever? Yes. It’s in my blood now.”

Meanwhile, with Watford eighth in the table, Capoue said that a top half finish would be as good as a trophy: “If we arrive in the top 10, we achieve a top thing. It would be like a trophy. For a club like Watford to get in the top 10 is crazy.”

It almost sounds like he never left Spurs.

Capoue has been on good goalscoring form with the Hornets, scoring one in the Premier League and one in the League Cup in just 216 minutes of action. That’s a ratio of 0.83 goals per 90 at this early stage.

However, the Frenchman has never scored against the Gunners in the past, so Arsenal just need to keep doing what they’ve done in previous meetings.
