Bayern Munich will not compete with Arsenal or Liverpool for Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar, according to latest reports.

The 21-year-old was in high demand during the summer. According to Kicker via Tribal Football, Bayern Munich were one of the clubs interested, but were put off by Monaco’s £90m price tag.

They now report that they won’t be going back in for the player, allowing Arsenal and Liverpool to compete for him. The Gunners spent almost the entire summer trying to sign Lemar but struggled to convince Monaco to lower their asking price.

In the end, Arsenal bid £92m for the French international, but failed to convince him to join the club. Liverpool showed interest at a late stage and were said to have convinced the player, but couldn’t agree a fee with Monaco.

Arsene Wenger suggested afterwards that Arsenal could return for Lemar in the January transfer window. The midfielder was an important part of Monaco’s title win last season, scoring nine goals and assisting 11 in 34 appearances.

He also managed two goals and five assists in the Champions League on the way to the semi-finals. It’s been more of a struggle for this season, though. He has two assists from eight games so far, as Monaco sit six points off current Ligue 1 leaders Paris St. Germain.
