Arsenal’s 23 December clash against Liverpool will reportedly be moved to 12:30pm on Christmas Eve.

When the rumours first emerged that Arsenal’s Premier League match against Liverpool at the Emirates will be moved to Christmas Eve because Sky wanted to be able to broadcast it, fans weren’t sure it was going to happen. However, it looks like it is. The Sun claims that it’ll kick off at 12:30pm.

Although Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore insisted that the match wouldn’t kick off at 4pm, as had been speculated, he never ruled out the fixture not getting moved at all.

Arsene Wenger spoke about the issue at his pre-Watford press conference and admitted that he would prefer to be home over Christmas. He pointed out that the match can’t possibly take place after 2pm. Otherwise, fans traveling from Liverpool may not be able to return to Merseyside. This means they may have to choose between seeing their loved ones or following their football team.

“I know that we have to adapt to the schedule dictated by the televisions, but overall I would say if that happens personally I think it should not, not any game should be played after 2pm,” he said.

“Personally I would prefer to be at my home on Christmas night and celebrate Christmas, but I still feel that could happen if we played early on the day and what you wouldn’t like to sacrifice is the evening with the family for people, but overall we go towards society religion isn’t considered anymore in any decision and where people want as well to watch football in the Christmas period.”

Leicester’s visit from Manchester United and West Ham’s home match against Newcastle have also apparently been looked at by Sky.

The Football Supporters’ Federation, who had an interview with Scudamore on Tuesday, aren’t happy with the Premier League’s actions as they’re choosing the interests of broadcasters over match-going fans.
