Arsenal are considering selling Mesut Ozil in January, according to reports.

The club are so worried about missing out on a big fee for Ozil that they’re willing to listen to offers in January.

So says the Daily Mail, anyway, who believe that Inter Milan are interested and could now make a move for him despite Inter Milan saying they won’t be moving for him, at least not in January

The story seems to come from the lack of progress that has been made on Ozil’s contract extension.

The Mail are assuming that as an extension seems unlikely, Arsenal will have little choice but to sell in January to ensure they at least get some money for him.

In which case, one would have to ask why Arsenal went through all the effort to keep him at the club and not sell him in the summer, when his value would have been higher and a replacement could have been bought.

Arsenal are not above making weird and, frankly, bad decisions in the transfer market, but this one would be especially difficult to swallow.

The season has been planned for with Ozil in mind, and you’d like to think that sporting reasons will keep him at the club until the summer.
