Arsenal are interested in young Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, according to reports.

The 22-year-old is out of contract next summer and has been earning the attention of Arsenal, Real Madrid and Napoli.

That’s according to Merca Futbol, who report that Kepa is an attractive option to clubs looking for a good young keeper.

Arsenal are certainly one of those clubs. Petr Cech is 35 and, with David Ospina being inconsistent and no young keeper coming through the academy, he has no reliable understudy.

Kepa became the first choice keeper at Athletic Bilbao last season after long-serving number one Gorka Iraizoz left the club.

He made 23 appearances last season, and has appeared in every La Liga game for Ahtletic this season.

His impressive form has made him a regular for the Spanish u21 side, for whom he’s won 22 caps.

Athletic can be very difficult to negotiate with as they often demands that clubs pay the full release clause for their players.

However, Kepa being out of contract in the summer simplifies any potential transfer considerably.

It’s for that reason that Athletic will be desperate to tie him down to a new contract as soon as possible.
