Arsenal are reportedly concerned that Alexis Sanchez may not be mentally fit following Chile’s failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Chile have missed out on World Cup qualification next year and Arsenal are allegedly concerned that this will affect his mental state. Apparently, since the 28-year-old now doesn’t have anything to play for as the Gunners aren’t even in the Champions League, this could trigger a downward spiral.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he’ll have a chat with him and assess the situation ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash against Watford.

Chile missed out on World Cup qualification after David Ospina scored an own goal from an indirect free-kick for Colombia. This brought the scoreline with Peru to 1-1. As a result, Peru moved above Chile in goal difference, knocking Jorge Sampaoli’s side out as they lost 3-0 to Brazil.

Colombia qualify.

Considering Chile’s success in Copa America over recent years, many expected Alexis’ side to go through to the World Cup without a hitch. It’s a surprise to everyone that they haven’t.

The forward, meanwhile, appears to be hating being at Arsenal after his alleged move to Manchester City didn’t go through on Transfer Deadline Day.

I doubt Chile failing to qualify for the World Cup is going to help this. Especially as the reason his country haven’t gotten through – Ospina – is his teammate. However, we need to be careful about diagnosing someone’s mental state when we don’t know them personally and aren’t their psychiatrist.
