Arsenal fans turned on Mesut Özil on his birthday, after the German somehow missed an easy chance to score in Saturday’s defeat to Watford.

Unfortunately for the 29-year-old, his birthday came just a day after the disappointing defeat. Perhaps keen to avoid a Yaya Touré situation, the club nevertheless wished him ‘Happy Birthday’ on Twitter.

Arsenal fans were clearly in an unforgiving mood, however, and took the opportunity to ruin the German midfielder’s birthday, calling for his exit and criticising his miss on the weekend, reports the Mirror.

Of course, everyone knows that when a player makes a mistake, the best way to help him get back to top form is to tear into him on social media.

Especially if that player has just returned from injury, and hasn’t started a match in over a month. Plus, of course it’s all the more important to do so on his birthday.

So, thanks to Arsenal fans. We can now look forward to a happy and in-form Mesut Özil who will be back to his best for the next game.

Our players are dropping like flies at the moment so we’ll likely be forced to play the 29-year-old. I don’t think Arsenal have much of a choice given the amount of injury doubts.
