Calum Chambers was handed a new two-year contract extension on Wednesday, and Arsenal fans have been reacting to the news on social media.
Chambers’ new deal ties him down until 2021, meaning he’s set to stay with the Gunners until he’s 26 years old, and Calum confirmed on Twitter that he wants to have his best years with Arsenal.
The Arsenal account tweeted out asking for messages from the fans for Chambers on his extension, and there was a mixed response given his lack of playing time, although many were positive.
Calum Chambers has extended his contract with us – now it's over to you…

One happy fan thinks Chambers has the making of a future captain of the club:
Hope to see you captain our club one day.

Whilst at the other extreme, this supporter simply responded that the England international needs to improve:
Hi Calum, improve your Defending. Commiserations Arsenal fans

Meanwhile others were just happy to see some loyalty to the club, after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain left for Liverpool in the summer, while Mesut Özil, Alexis Sanchez and Jack Wilshere continue to move through the final year of their Arsenal deals without accepting new contracts:
Very rare to see players with club loyalty glad you’ve signed an extension Calum I just hope Wenger gives you a chance you deserve it

Couldn’t agree more!! Was gutted with the links away in the summer.

Finally, if you want to see what I personally thought of the extension, you can find my message below:
Happy to see you commit your future here, you’ve looked great so far since your loan, big things ahead!

The new contract was a positive step for the club, in my opinion. It means we can hold onto the defender if he really starts to kick on, but we can also get good value if he does end up leaving.
I feel we shouldn’t be looking to let him go, as he showed last year that he has the quality to be a Premier League defender. He just needs chances and a system that doesn’t leave him as exposed as in his first spell in the Gunners’ first-team.
For me he’s already shown a big improvement in his very limited minutes this season.
