Arsenal are one of many clubs tracking Barcelona youngster Abel Ruiz, who reportedly has a very affordable release clause.

The 17-year-old striker is one of Spain’s brightest talents and could soon be on the move.

According to the Mirror, Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea are all monitoring the Spaniard, and will have been encouraged by his £3m release clause. The release clause is in effect until 2019 and Barcelona are keen to renegotiate his contract to remove it as a result.

Ruiz is currently away at the u17 World Cup with Spain. He’s scored twice, helping Spain to two wins from their three group stage matches. Arsenal have a history of signing young players from Barcelona too.

Cesc Fabregas, Fran Merida, Julio Pleguezuelo, Jon Toral and Hector Bellerin were all signed from Barcelona’s academy. Of those players, only Fabregas and Bellerin became first team regulars.

Arsenal’s signing of Barcelona’s young players has always been a sore point for the Catalan club and press. They currently have their own promising young striker in Eddie Nketiah.

Nonetheless, Arsenal are always keen to sign promising young players from abroad, and could exploit a low release clause.

Ruiz has made six appearances for Barcelona’s B team, scoring just the one goal. He’s also been a regular for their u19 team in the UEFA Youth League.
