Arsenal and Liverpool’s Christmas Eve clash is reportedly no longer going ahead.

In contrast to earlier reports, the Telegraph claim that Premier League fans have won their battle against having Arsenal’s home clash against Liverpool played on Christmas Eve.

Instead, talks are apparently ongoing over moving the game to Friday 22 December instead.

The Premier League match was originally set to kick-off on Saturday 23 December but Sky wanted to be able to broadcast what’s bound to be a big game. Arsenal and Liverpool have an historic rivalry and the fixture often brings in one of the highest numbers of viewers in the league.

With the Gunners losing 4-0 back in August and Jurgen Klopps’ lot probably favourites to win again on sites like BetBurger, there aren’t many fans who would want to pass up the opportunity of watching the reverse fixture in the flesh. Even if that means risking their Christmas Day.

Discussions then began over moving the fixture to Christmas Eve instead as Sky are able to show two matches every Sunday if they wish.

However, fans were not happy as this could effect their Christmas plans, especially as Liverpool fans have to travel over 200 miles to get there.

This prompted Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore to insist in an interview with the Football Supporters’ Federation that no game would kick-off after 4pm.

This obviously still left many presuming that Sky would still go ahead with having an early kick-off on Christmas Eve but hopefully the Telegraph’s claims are true and this won’t happen.

If it take place on the Friday, Sky can still broadcast it and get their ratings without potentially disrupting hundreds of fans’ Christmases.

It’s somewhat comforting to see that the fans are perhaps being listen to. However, it could still go one way or the other and until we get official confirmation, I wouldn’t want to bet on what they’ll decide.

Nor would I like to bet on the outcome of the game since both teams appear to be doing pretty terribly right now. If you do, it might be worth using Sports Arbitrage Betting.

Who knows how we’ll be playing by Christmas?
