The outlet that initially reported the Overmars-to-Arsenal story has given an update on the situation, after Arsène Wenger denied the claims.

TUTTOmercatoWEB, who initially claimed that Marc Overmars has reached an agreement with the Gunners for next season, now say Ajax are already lining up Mohammed Allach of SBV Vitesse as a replacement for the former Arsenal man.

Overmars is currently the director of football at Ajax, so if they do bring in Mohammed Allach in the position, it would mean that Marc was available for work. If that happens, it would lend some credence to the Arsenal rumours.

Alternatively, the Dutch club have also been linked with an internal solution in Edwin Van der Sar, who TUTTOmercatoWEB claim is also being considered for the job. The former Manchester United goalkeeper is currently the CEO of Ajax.

However, that still doesn’t change the fact that Arsène Wenger denied the rumours on Thursday, and has been adamant in the past that Arsenal won’t have a director of football while he is in charge.

If Overmars was replaced in his current role, he could perhaps join up with the Gunners in some other capacity. But I’m yet to see any compelling evidence that Wenger’s changed his mind, and would now happily see a director of football at the club.
