Assistant manager Ismael Garcia decided to go for a 3-5-2 system with Van Veenendaal; Rose, Quinn, Williamson; O’Reilly, Nobbs, Van De Donk, Evans, Mitchell; Miedema, Mead against Everton on Sunday.

Anna Miedema scored her first league goal for the club, while Bethany Mead added a second one. The game also saw a first team debut for 16-year-old Lauren James who came on as a sub.

The League table still looks grim as the Gunners are currently in fourth place with seven points. They trail leaders Chelsea by five points and 19 goals and second-placed City by five points and 10 goals.

The chances of getting Champions League football are clearly remote and explain why the manager was let go so early in the season. [View our stats analysis of his time as manager here]

Arsenal are next up against Millwall in the Conti Cup on Wednesday. The game will be played away at St Paul’s Ground.

Hopefully, a few youngsters will be involved alongside Taylor Hinds and Lauren James, unlike the previous Conti Cup game.
