Jack Wilshere reportedly wants West Ham to save him from his Arsenal “misery”, and is looking to exit the Emirates Stadium in January.

The Daily Star report that the 25-year-old is unhappy at Arsenal and wants the Hammers to offer him a way out in the winter transfer window.

They’ve based this on the fact that Wilshere wasn’t on the bench against Chelsea despite playing on Thursday. It was, apparently, a clear message the English international has no future at Arsenal.

Alternatively, it could have also been the Gunners managing the fitness of a notoriously delicate and injury-prone player, in my opinion. I feel a tough away game to Chelsea perhaps isn’t the best time for someone with 20 minutes of first-team football behind him to return in.

Wilshere, they say, is hoping to impress enough in the Europa League and Carabao Cup to earn a move away from Arsenal. His contract expires in the summer and there’s been little sign that Arsenal will extend it.

“Misery” makes it sound like Arsenal are forcing him to stay. However, they were open to offers in the summer. The likes of Sampdoria, Antalyaspor, Trabzonspor and Birmingham were all interested. He ended up remaining at Arsenal, and will have limited minutes this season, in my opinion.

If he impresses enough in the games he does get, Wenger could consider giving him more game time, I feel, and maybe even offer him a new contract.
