Arsene Wenger was understandably pleased with his side’s 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal put in a battling display to earn a point at Stamford Bridge.

It was a game that many thought Arsenal were lose, given their terrible record away to the top six sides. After the performance at Anfield last month, they had every reason to believe Chelsea would win comfortably.

Arsenal, though, defended very well and would consider themselves unfortunate not to come away with all three points in the end.

Speaking after the game, Wenger was pleased with the performance.

“You have to accept when you deliver the type of performance we did at Liverpool you will be criticised. You only have one way to respond and that’s on the pitch. We responded today,” Wenger said, as reported by football.london.

“Of course it was a question about what would happen today, at least with the attitude, the response and determination. It was vital for us, even above the result, to come out with a solid performance on that front.

“With a bit more freedom, maybe less inhibition we could have won this game with one or two goals difference.”

Despite the good performance, Arsenal are yet to win away from home this season. Wenger, though, doesn’t seem too concerned due to how well we performed in some of those games.

“I believe that at Stoke we had a good performance, purely on the football front.

“We had 77 per cent possession, we had three penalties (not given) and we were unlucky with the disallowed goal. The result was very disappointing but the performance was not.

“What changed after the Liverpool game is that there is only one thing that matters – the next game and how you respond.

“That’s what we did today.”

Alexandre Lacazette perhaps could have won the game for Arsenal in the first half. His miss from close range won’t be something he’ll want to linger on. Wenger, though, was impressed with his work rate and discipline.

“I felt Lacazette had a very good first half, he worked hard for the team and was very disciplined.

“It takes him some time to maintain that intensity for 90 minutes.

“But don’t forget I have Walcott, Giroud and Sanchez on the bench. After 65 minutes in a game of that intensity it’s normal that you bring fresh legs on.

“I never ask any striker to understand that he has to make room for someone else. You never can do that.”

The result at Stamford Bridge put an end to a run of defeats away to Chelsea.

Arsenal play Doncaster in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, before hosting West Brom the following Monday. They close out the month with a trip to BATE Borisov in the Europa League before welcoming Brighton to the Emirates.

The next two weeks is a chance for Arsenal to put a positive run together after a difficult start.
